About this site

Founder
Hi, I am Spencer. Nice to meet ya.
I started this site as a high school student in New Jersey. Volunteering turned out to be a fulfilling and fun way to spend my extra time. Figuring out which organizations, events, and projects actually take high school students was the hard part. So I built a place that makes it easier for you to find a way to help.
I am in college now, and the site still runs on the same idea it started with.
Spencer Jahng started New Jersey High School Volunteers while he was still in high school. He is in college now. The site is still built around the same problem he ran into as a student.
Thousands of New Jersey high school students want to do good. Their communities need the help. Finding a real opportunity is harder than it should be. Listings are scattered across town pages, library flyers, and PDFs from three years ago. Half of them do not say whether a 15 year old can even show up.
What we do differently
Every listing answers four questions before you click anything. Am I old enough. How many hours do I get. How far is it and can I get there without a car. When does it actually happen.
Where the listings come from
We link out to the original organization. Every listing shows the source name and the date we last checked it, so you can see how fresh the information is. We never present another organization's work as our own, and we never put contact details behind a login.
If something looks wrong or out of date, tell us and we will check it again. If you run a program that needs student volunteers, send it to us.
Where we are live
North Jersey came first. Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, and Union counties carry real listings today. We are adding coverage for more counties over time. Come back often!
