About this role
Riding lesson volunteers serve as lead walkers, handling the horse during a lesson and helping steer and maintain its speed, or as side walkers, giving physical support to the rider and helping them complete exercises such as stretching, counting and reaching. Farm crew volunteers maintain the red barn and the goat, sheep, pig and chicken enclosures in the morning, or clean paddocks and handle other chores in the afternoon. Garden crew volunteers support the half-acre Farm in the Forest food production garden weekly through weeding, mulching, watering and harvesting. All volunteers complete orientation and training and commit to a set date and time for the semester. Lessons run year-round, rain or shine, and the lead walker role requires previous horse experience.
